How Our Garden Began
Back in 2011 our little beauty program started as a tiny little seed with only eight students. Fast forward to today and there have been over 400 graduates from Bloom Beauty Academy. Many graduates of our program have become instructors at our school, helping continue the cycle of learning. Others have started their own businesses or work in either home or professional salons. ALL have gained a sense of self-respect and have created a sisterhood with fellow graduates that they never felt was possible. Where helplessness once grew, success blooms resulting in income for families and a purposeful life.
Our founder, Beth Sczempka was asked for her help and guidance back in 2011, when she and her family came down with Build a Miracle to help build houses. Her heart immediately connected with the incredible women of El Florido and she saw a great need in getting a beauty program started there. There are very few career choices for a woman in a third world country, particularly ones living in extreme poverty with typically nothing more than a 3rd grade education. The beauty industry is a great option!
With her background as a hairstylist and salon owner Beth moved quickly to put together the equipment, furniture, learning materials and tools needed to start the very first class of 8 students. Little did she know that the bulk of those first 8 students would prove to be some of the most involved and successful women in their community! Some have become our teachers, some have started their own businesses and others are the leaders of the Build a Miracle community. Since then, we have grown to have approximately 60 students every graduating class, twice a year.
Your donation will help the women in the Bloom Beauty Academy to support their families with self-respect and allow them to escape a cycle of poverty by learning a dignified and lucrative way to provide for their families.

Meet Our Instructors
As Director of Bloom Beauty Academy, Anna has a passion for beauty and educating women. She oversees and coordinates all aspects of the cosmetology program. Her passion for the hair industry encourages the teachers to care for the students education and their success.

Lucelia Terrazas
In our newest addition to Bloom, Lucelia teaches barbering and mens grooming. Students learn about barbering tools, customer service, and professional ethics. They perform fade and taper haircuts; razor designs; basic hair coloring, perms, men's facials, beard design, and men's eyebrow shaping.
Addi Rubi Chi
In this Addi’s color course, students learn the history of colorimetry, color fundamentals, color neutralization, hair lightening techniques, shades, color retouching, highlights, baby lights, balayage, highlights, fantasy color designs, and the application of hair treatments.
Damaris Morales
In our nail artistry course, Damaris teaches students about proper nail hygiene, biosecurity procedures, and manicurist ethics. They also learn of nail art techniques such as French manicures, semi-permanent gel, acrylic, encapsulation, sculpted nails, 3D, and mirror effects.
Maria Barragán
As a talented beauty artist, Maria teaches lash extensions. In this specialized course, students learn about the tools used, the importance of hygiene and biosecurity, the image and ethics of a lash artist, and adhesive application techniques.
In Araceli’s haircutting course, students learn about hair structure, professional stylist ethics, customer service, work tools, styling hair with thermal tools, and how to perform women's haircuts including straight cuts, layered cuts, multi-layered cuts, bob cuts, and men's haircuts with clippers, and classic fades.

María Cristina Marrufo
In this specialized course, Maria teaches students learn to perform different types of fantasy makeup, face painting, Catrina and Mexican Catrín, theatrical aging, body paint, wounds, and scars. In addition to makeup, Maria also teaches on key aspects of professional hair styling, water waves, braided hairstyles, updos, polished pigtails, buns, high updos with Russian technique, bridal and quinceañera styles, professional ethics, and customer service.

As founder of Bloom Beauty Academy, Beth mentors the teachers and students. Her encouragement has given these deserving woman the motivation they need to press through their difficulties and persevere. With more than 600+ graduates from the program, its easy to see how this garden has grown into a field of beautiful flowers that inspires others to BLOOM!
